I am an experienced yoga teacher of four years and an athlete, so I understand the benefits and challenges of bringing yoga practice into a busy training regime. I trained initially with Sun Power Yoga, blending the alignment focus of Iyengar practice with the dynamic flow of Ashtanga.
As an athlete, I am the UK's leading female pool freediver holding National Records in breath-hold swimming with and without fins. I also compete in the related sport of fin swimming where I hold several age group records.
YSS Case Study Research: Freediving
Why I Joined YSS:
I joined YSS to deepen my understanding of sport biomechanics and how yoga can address issues with the body, mind and breath. As a scientist (my day job) I want to research, understand and, if possible, quantify the benefits of yoga practice for sport and daily life. So the scientific approach of YSS suited me perfectly!
Working as a Yoga Sports Coach™:
Following on from my YSS Yoga Sports Coach™ training in 2013, I now teach Yoga for Sport classes in Bristol at Yoga Space and Sweaty Betty studios. I also teach Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) yoga in Bristol and Bath during the summer months.
